Mandated, Required, Forced, Penalized…

The debate between Senator Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama is a straw man attempting to divert the larger issue.  Universal Health Care is not the main issue in our country.  In fact, to require American citizens to obtain insurance is against the Constitution of 1776.

It is possible that we are moving into a new era, “The” new something…but let’s be honest.  Look at Britain and their health care plan.  It’s wretched and actually hurts more persons than not.  Obama and Clinton attempted to diver the issue by pointing out the few persons who become sick.  The young.  If we use logic and reason, the truth is that the majority of people who are diagnosed with cancer and debilitating diseases are the middle aged and older.  Do they not matter?  Are they not the cornerstone of our culture and great country?

The words used in order to enforce this new “health care plan” are intimidating…in fact they are abusive….

Bad Mothering??? I don’t think so…

Posted by thecrookedmailbox on 27 February 2008

It’s well known I have three boys under the age of 11.  For the past…mmm…two weeks they have been coming home from school complaining about a woman who every morning at the bus stop bothers them.  For some reason, this woman has taken it upon herself to police my children while they wait for the bus to arrive.  She yells at them if they don’t have their coats or backpacks, and threatens them with “I’m going to tell your mom” yet the first time I met the woman was last night when I walked to her doorstep.

Apparently the other mom’s at the stop are appalled at my children’s behavior.  They push each other, they don’t have their backpacks or their coats and the neighborhood child watch team a.k.a. busybody mom’s are all in a huff!  I explained to the self-proclaimed leader of the pack that I parent differently and if my kids forget their coats on a day that is 20 degrees out, I’m not running out my door to rescue them from the cold or missed homework!  That being said the kids stand for maybe 2 minutes waiting for the bus and we live about 30 seconds from the stop.  I am an unobtrusive mother, I allow my kids to make their own mistakes, suffer their own consequences and give them lots of love when they cry.  I mean, hey life is hard and it’s not going to get easier.

The leader of the pack felt it important that I be there with my children while they wait for the bus.  This way, according to her, they would be supervised.  I countered her request with a staunch negative.  I won’t stand there hovering over my kids to make sure they behave.  They need to learn to act appropiately whether I’m there or not and coddling them isn’t going to fix the problem.  I did say however that if she has any future issue, I will welcome her any morning at my front door to hear all about it.  In the nicest way I know how, I told her to mind her own business and leave my kids alone.  They have one mom, they don’t need two.  It was an interesting conversation to say the least.

I think it is safe to say yesterday can easily be added to the “worst day of the year so far” list.  My nieces cat died in a horrible family accident.  My husbands ex-wife wouldn’t let his son talk to him again.  And I made my youngest cry because I told him I would see his Indian fire that he made in the park but it was too late by the time I remembered….

But…my computer is working again and better than ever….I have to remember:  Be thankful for the small things.

Back In Action

My computer died.  A windows update corrupted the system which led to a prompt phone call with HP personnel.  They had to send a disk.  Everything is gone!  We’ve reloaded the program but everything I had saved on my computer vanished.  It doesn’t make me happy.

Alright, alright….you made your point.  But my point is this~Exactly.  I’ve never written an ethnography formally.  Therefore I have no idea what I’m doing!  Oh sure!  For you and the Mrs. I’m sure it’s a cake walk…but me…um no!  More like a sludge with quick sand.

I have 2 1/2 pages done so far, and am planning to have maps drawn pictures of my subject…I just can’t get it out of my head that my writing SUCKS!

Anyway,  wish me luck!

‘Tis a movie that provokes thought

Posted by thecrookedmailbox on 20 February 2008

No country for old men should win the Oscars.  Why you may ask?  Because it is not the usual huge boobs, tight pants, masculine man triumphs movie.

It is a movie that when you leave, continues to play in your mind.  You just can’t quite figure out what the producer is trying to communicate.  It is not a simple film, instead it is one where the plot is hidden yet uncovered.

Now…tell me what that means…
