Real penitence (as defined by Noah Webster); sorrow or deep contrition for sin, as an offense and dishonor to God, a violation of his holy law, and the basest ingratitude towards a Being of infinite benevolence. This is called evangelical repentance, and is accompanied and followed by amendment of life.
Likewise, husbands, live with your wives in an understanding way, showing honor to the woman as the weaker vessel, since they are heirs with you of the grace of life, so that your prayers may not be hindered. 1 Peter 3:7
I have come to the realization that I am not a humble man. I believe at times to be, then pride stings and consumes my flesh. I do not live with my wife seeking to truly understand her, thus negating to show her honor. Oftentimes I find myself combating her full steam as an equal vessel, not as the weaker one. And, my prayer life has sputtered nearly to a cessation. When I dishonor my spouse, I disobey the Lord. Not sincerely seeking to understand her and show compassion towards her lacks conviction that it offends my God. Lord, please amend my life that I may direct true repentance towards You. Please change my conduct and anchor me solid in prayer. Deepen my affection for You, Christ, that I may first love You and my wife next. Please forgive my numerous offenses and omissions of duty! I am a wicked, unruly man!
