The Holiday Season…

Posted by thecrookedmailbox on 23 December 2006

Throughout the years I often times felt I was a leaf blowing about landing here or there waiting to be taken up lifted off to the next resting place. And when I would land it was if there was a constant undercurrent of wind so that I never really rested…just hovered. Because when a storm would come, or a wind would blow, I would be shaken rattled as it were so that I could never truly feel comfort. Just as a leaf doesn’t naturally belong in a lake, I didn’t naturally belong in these homes; and no matter how often I wished, or hoped, or tried to change my skin nothing changed the truth. I wasn’t a duck, and this water was no tree. When I ponder the “Christmas Season” or when I speak of it to others, I am sure some are perplexed at my vehement attitude about the whole thing. I’ve wasted so many years trying to turn nothing into something, instead of accepting the reality and finality of truth. And truth is not a bad thing. It’s not something to fear, or hide from. Quite the opposite. It wasn’t until I was allowed to embrace the truth that I found my resting place. And with it there is no shaking, no blowing, or tumbling and definitely no hovering!

For my resting place is found in our Lord Jesus Christ. His blood sacrifice perfectly completed, which gave me an eternal family which never leaves, never turns away, always welcomes me and loves completely without expectation. It is the Gospel that has saved me. The sweet truth of Jesus, and the mighty power of God the Father. This Truth has nothing to do with Christmas.

And since we are speaking of truth; For the most part and for most people, Christmas is a time of greed, gluttony, and slothfulness, none of which are God honoring. And the Gospel is an offense…but Christmas is not and yet our society, indeed most professing Christians attempt to converge the two as if they are one and the same. But they are not! And they should not be viewed as the same! So to me, celebrating the birth of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ in this manner is creating a falsehood, which is an offense to God and a blessing to no one.
